Tuesday,25/08/2015-06:08:01:pm by areshkumar

Constipation: Infrequent or difficult evacuation of feces. May be chronic and does not imply loss of function. Anything that delays transit of faecal mass can cause constipation. Obstipation: Intractable or refractory constipation that has failed to resolve after several courses of medical and dietary therapy. It implies loss of function. Megacolon: When there is a marked increase in diameter of colon resulting from chronic constipation/obstipation. Constipation/obstipation leads to hypertrophy of the colon and dilatation of the colon. Treatment: our main aim is to soften the faeces. Retention enemas- 5-10ml for cats to soften the faeces. saline + lactulose, warm water, soapy water can be used 3 times a day. Lubricant like -Petrolatum jelly: 1-3 inches per cat per day also can be used.
